It weighs 113 tonnes empty, and more than 376 tonnes full loaded. All that needs its 2300hp (1715kW) of power, delivered through a six speed automatic transmission (five forward, one reverse). The truck is 7.41m wide and its tyres cost more than $30,000. + The 994 wheel loader (which KCGM retired in 2009) can lift 160 tonnes of ore. It has 1600hp (1176kW) of power and a top speed of 22.5km/h forwards, and 24.8km/h in reverse — having three forward gears, and three for reversing. + And then there’s the Paddy Wagon — an electric buggy used for getting around the site. + From the Superpit lookout, we see haul trucks at work. They crawl, laden, up the deep pit’s laneways — and at one point, I count 17 of them working at the same moment. Camera IconPaddy Wagon at Hannans North Tourist Mine, Kalgoorlie.
