Just after 10 a.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service snowfall report showed 2 inches in the middle of Salina. South of the city saw a little more snow, with 3 inches reported near Smolan. As indicated from the winter storm warning issued the day before, the weather system produced more snow further north, with places like Clay Center and Randolph each receiving 4 inches of snow. Around 2 inches of snow accumulated in Salina Wednesday. Elsewhere in Saline County reports of snow were as high as 3 inches. Highest snow totals in western Kansas Most of the Sunflower State lined up with Salina, seeing on average around 2 to 3 inches. Farther west in Kansas snow totals did get higher, with Hays and Scott City reporting 5 inches and the highest total coming from Sharon Springs, where there were 7 inches reported. Bitter cold wind chills still a concern While much of the snow has stopped falling, temperatures and wind chills in the area are still expected to be an issue for central Kansas. At 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, temperatures at the Salina Regional Airport were reported at 12 degrees with -5 wind chill.
