For us, single-player was a chance for us to expand on the universe we established in the first game. It was something that we as developers wanted to do. But we also wanted to bring more people to the party–those people who don’t always want to go online and deal with the stress of the competitive game.

Titanfall too had a story-driven campaign, but that was built around the already existing multiplayer setting. But with Titanfall 2, things were completely different as far as the single-player campaign was concerned. However, this transition was never easy and the company was “almost ready to admit defeat.” McCoy also stated that the single-player campaign was neither the “checkbox” the company wanted to mark off, nor was a “market-driven development.”

The dynamic interaction between the pilot and the titan, as well as parkour, appeared to be the campaign’s primary aspects. With its fluid, open-ended sections, Titanfall 2‘s single-player had a tone, very different from many military shooters.
