Man dies following Feb. 4 dog attack in Panama City Beach

PANAMA CITY BEACH — The man who was mauled by a dog on Feb. 4 died on Sunday, Feb. 9.

Michael Fabjon Jr., 49, was in the intensive care unit after the attack, which caused serious injuries to his neck and throat.

Panama City attorney Zachary Taylor has been retained by the family, which is seeking civil damages from the dog’s owners through a wrongful death claim, according to a news release from the Law Office of Manuel & Thomson.

“On behalf of the grieving family, we are tasked with seeking answers and some form of justice for this senseless and preventable loss of life,” said Taylor in the release. “A dog owner is strictly liable for injuries and damages caused by their dog. Fabjon had injuries “…to his upper torso, body and chest areas.”

The release goes on to say that the family thanks the good Samaritans who were on scene as well as local first responders and law enforcement officials who assisted.

Fabjon was in the process of putting his dog up after breaking up a fight between his dog and a neighbor’s pit bull when he was attacked near 8115 Laird St.. The pit bull ran away after Fabjon broke up the fight, but then returned and took the man to the ground while biting his neck and violently shaking his head, authorities said.

When deputies from the Bay County Sheriff’s Office arrived he required life-saving measures including CPR. Fabjon was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

reported that the dog involved in the attack was later euthanized. The dog’s owner was arrested on charges of resisting without violence and obstruction.
