Critics Think Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Show Was Bad but Pokimane Is Not One of Them

Right now the biggest talking point of 2025 might be Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime performance. During Sunday’s thrilling 14-minute halftime concert, Lamar performed a number of his hits with special guests like SZA, Samuel L. Jackson, and Serena Williams, who also made unexpected debuts. Billboard reports that 120 million people have watched this entire sequence.

However, this performance stirred unreal controversy as Lamar dissed Drake on stage with his Grammy-winning track “Not Like Us.” The world seems to have divided into two parts, where one is shouting with the voice of Lamar and the other part finds this one of the worst Super Bowl halftime performances of all time. And it turns out that popular streamer Pokimane falls in the former category.

During the performance, Lamar did not shy away from showcasing the longstanding beef between him and fellow rapper Drake. In fact, he invited Drake’s ex-girlfriend and tennis champion Serena Williams to dance on stage.

“Only white people hated it. I didn’t want to say it…”

Actors, celebrities, and content producers have all offered their thoughts on the spectacle in the wake of it, with Imane “Pokimane” Anys firing barbs towards the people who have been blasting Lamar’s performance for no good reason. “Only white people hated it. I didn’t want to say it,” Poki said in response in one of her streams. She continued:

“You know what ******* me off the most respectfully too? The people that I saw with this take the most were white men. Ain’t nothing wrong with being a white man. That’s not the point. My point is that, you know, I feel like if you watched his performance and really took it in, you’d be like ‘There are some underlying messages that the performance is trying to convey, especially during ****** History Month.’”

Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime performance was always going to be seen as a victory lap in his feud with Drake, but it felt especially cruel to bring Sony into the mix in an attempt to bring that chapter to a spectacular close. As the lights went down, the stadium’s side was illuminated with the words “Game Over,” and the stage displayed the familiar cross, circle, triangle, and square symbols of PlayStation.

Although it’s unclear why the To Pimp a Butterfly artist chose to seemingly channel PlayStation for the end of his year-long battle, music and video game fans have taken to social media to show their appreciation for the jab. Lamar’s already amazing performance might even be better on repeat when you realize that the stage is a major video game reference.

xQc hits back at Pokimane for taking a jab at white people

to Pokimane’s criticism after seeing a clip of her response online, labeling it “textbook pandering” and a “ridiculous analysis.” xQc explained how music can “interlace messages and symbolism” to support his scathing critique of Poki, arguing that the musician, not the audience, is responsible if they fail to notice those details. This is what xQc stated:

You should understand, man; this pandering for the audience is getting old. This is the richest thing you could say.

xQc also bashed Pokimane by stating that she wasn’t “mean to understand” the Super Bowl halftime show as this wasn’t some documentary or puzzle to figure out. He also remarked the Moroccan streamer was “f**king braindead” and told her not to blame the people who were watching the show as it wasn’t people’s fault for missing the mark.

This isn’t the first time xQc has criticized Pokimane while streaming; the two have exchanged online comments on several occasions, such as when xQc said he received more criticism than her during a dispute or when he talked about gambling while streaming. Naturally, though, the two had previously gotten along well and even co-hosted a brief podcast.
