The Freo for a Frack Free Kimberley concert headlined by international performer John Butler, up-and-coming Fremantle musician Noah Dillon and Kimberley residents Wil Thomas and Phoebe Corke drew a full house and passionate crowd at Fremantle’s Port Beach Brewery on February 6. Butler said it was heartening to see so many Fremantle people standing up for the country. “We need to keep the pressure up and demand to know why fracking is deemed too dangerous for the South West and metro areas, where it’s banned by the Government, but not for the treasured and beloved Kimberley,” he said. “Freo people are very clearly and loudly calling for the Kimberley to be protected from fracking.” Broome-based singer-songwriter Thomas said fracking was “poisonous”. “There’s been many destructive proposals in the Kimberley over the years but we’ve never stopped fighting for it,” he said.
