Landale grabs rare chance in Rockets’ NBA win

*********** Jock Landale has benefited from a rare opportunity, posting a double-double for the short-handed Houston Rockets as they snapped a six-game skid with a 94-87 NBA win over the Toronto Raptors.

Landale had 11 points and a season-best 10 rebounds in his 24 minutes on court after starting centre Alperen Sengun departed in the first quarter of Sunday’s home game with back spasms.

The 29-year-old has averaged just under 10 minutes for 3.5 points in his appearances this season but has stiff internal competition with Sengun and Kiwi big man Steven Adams also at the Rockets (33-20), who sit fifth in the western conference.

Adams was rested after playing the previous night.

Also filling in for Sengun, Jeff Green had a season-high 14 points.

The Rockets were also without Fred VanVleet (ankle) for a fifth straight game, but Dillon Brooks led the way with 19 points and Jalen Green added 18.

The lowly Raptors (16-37) made just eight of 42 3-pointer attempts.
