) — The man killed in a rollover ****** on I-15 near the Point of the Mountain on Thursday has been identified as Jake Shoff, a former BYU student-athlete on the Men’s Basketball team.

Utah Highway Patrol believe Shoff, 46, experienced a medical emergency that led to him being involved in a four-vehicle ******.

Shoff was reportedly behind the wheel of a Mercedes G63 and driving “recklessly at a high rate of speed” before veering to the left for an unknown reason, according to Utah Highway Patrol. The Mercedes rear-ended a Nissan Sentra before colliding with the concrete center median veering back right and sideswiping a Ford Escape.

Finally, the Mercedes crashed into the driver’s side of a Chevrolet box truck before rolling on its side and coming to a stop.

Emergency crews extricated Shoff from the Mercedes and performed life-saving measures. Unfortunately, Shoff died at the scene due to his injuries.

starting in 2001 until 2004, appearing in 57 games. BYU said he helped take the Cougars to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.

In a statement, BYU Athletics said Shoff was instrumental in helping the Cougars finish the regular season on an eight-game win streak.
