How to Mountaintop Skate in Destiny 2

Movement in Destiny 2 has always been smooth and responsive. Guardians use Sparrows for speed, but what if I told you there was an even faster way? It may be ridiculous, but here’s how to Mountaintop Skate in Destiny 2.

Mountaintop Skating may be a goofy name, but it explains the ability well. Guardians can use the Mountaintop Grenade Launcher to fly across the map.

Skating has existed for a long time but is usually a class-specific movement technique that’s quite advanced and requires strict timing.

The best thing about Mountaintop Skating is that it requires no special gear or subclass.

There are two prerequisites for Mountaintop Skating. The most obvious is the Mountaintop Grenade Launcher itself. Oddly enough, I recommend getting the old version of the Mountaintop instead of the Brave one. You can get this from the Exotic Archive in the Tower from the Legacy Gear section. The Brave one also works, although the explosions seem to hurt more.

You also need a Sword with the Eager Edge perk. The swords from the Dares of Eternity can roll with Eager Edge, but the easiest way to get it now is with the Falling Guillotine Sword from the Brave Arsenal.

You can target farm the Falling Guillotine by Attuning to it in the Hall of Champions to increase its drop rate from Onslaught.

This technique is slightly different depending on who you ask. Some players use the Mountaintop blast to fling them across the map, while others use it to extend the range of class-specific skating techniques.

To launch yourself, ***** a barrage of sticky grenades at a wall. Sticky grenades take roughly 10 seconds to detonate, which is plenty of time to make a decent pile of grenades.

Stand as close as you can to the grenades, and you’ll be flung across the map away from the **********. This type of explosive ****** would typically ***** a Guardian, but Mountaintop Grenades do less self-damage than usual.

It’s important to note that you should stand by a ledge when you do this; otherwise, your feet will clip the ground, and you won’t go very far.

If you want to fly even further, replace every mod on your gauntlets with Kinetic Loader, as I have in the picture above. This mod decreases the Mountaintop’s reload speed so you can plant a couple of extra grenades before they detonate.

If you can time an Eager Edge sword swing with the **********, you can go so far you’ll break level boundaries. The tricky part is timing, but once you have a few successful launches, you can do all the steps fairly consistently.

I prefer to use the Mountaintop to increase my Shatterskating distance. Shatterskating is a Hunter-specific technique that requires the Stasis Subclass and Shatterdive Aspect. You can also ‘Well Skate’ with a Solar Warlock, although I’ve not tried the Technique with that class.

The timing for the Shatterskating technique is extremely strict. Swap to your Sword, perform a heavy ******* (right trigger/R2 on a controller), then very quickly press Jump, followed by Shatterdive. The motion is so fast it feels like you’re sliding your thumb from Jump to ***** (X to Square or A to B).

If you’re Shatterskating, swap to Spike Grenades on the Mountaintop, as they explode immediately. While you’re skating, turn 180 degrees and ***** Spike Grenades at the ground behind you. The technique is a little awkward, but those detonations will extend your momentum so you can travel even further.

Skating is an advanced technique, but you can still have fun launching yourself with the Mountaintop regardless of gear or skill level. Even if you’ve already got the Falling Guillotine, make sure you’ve got all the other Brave weapons, as you never know what you’ll need for the Final Shape
