20th anniversary of the EU’s biggest enlargement

At 10:30, Parliament will celebrate the twenty-year anniversary of the 2004 enlargement, which saw ten new countries join the EU. EP President Roberta Metsola, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, former EP President Pat Cox, and former Commission President Romano Prodi as well as representatives from the ten countries will participate. They will be joined and receive questions from young people born in May 2004.

New rules to ****** money laundering and ********** financing

In a debate at around 15:30 with Commissioner McGuinness, MEPs will assess plans to beef up the EU’s response to money laundering, ********** financing, the evasion of sanctions, and to set up a new enforcer for the common rules. The final vote on the agreed text with the Council will take place at 17:00.

Final vote on new EU rules for sustainable packaging

At noon, Parliament is set to approve a new directive, requiring firms to prevent, end or mitigate their negative effects on people and the environment, including child labour, slavery, pollution and biodiversity loss.

In brief:

Human Rights. In the evening, Parliament will debate with EU Foreign Policy Chief Borrell the situation in Azerbaijan, the proposed repeal of a law banning female ******** mutilation in Gambia and the new security law in Hong Kong. Plenary will vote on three resolutions on Thursday.

Green Deal. In this session’s topical debate, as of 13:00, MEPs will debate with Commissioner Sinkevičius and State Secretary Michel on behalf of the Belgian Presidency “the ******* on climate and nature: far right and ************* attempts to ******** the Green Deal and prevent investment in our future”.

Votes

There are two voting sessions. The first vote will take place between 12:00 and 13:00, the second will be between 17:00 and 18:00.

During the first slot, MEPs will hold votes, among other things, on

  • the Platform Work Directive;
  • new requirements to improve EU air quality by 2030;
  • establishing the ********* Disability and Parking Cards;
  • faster cross-border investigations into traffic offences;
  • updated guidelines for trans-********* transport network;
  • creating a ********* Health Data Space;
  • mandatory training for all MEPs on good office management;
  • the EU withdrawal from the Energy Charter Treaty;
  • a new facility to support the EU’s Western Balkans partners;
  • a new system to ensure that the single market continues to function during a crisis;
  • plants obtained by certain new genomic techniques and their food and feed;
  • measures to facilitate consular protection for unrepresented citizens of the Union in third countries;
  • EU job seeker’s aid for dismissed workers in Denmark and Germany; and
  • the production and marketing of plant reproductive material.

Between 17:00 and 18:00, MEPs will vote, among other things, on

  • the situation of the Rule of law in Hungary;
  • revised rules for use of blood, tissues and other substances of human origin;
  • plans to increase EU cooperation against cybersecurity threats;
  • surface water and groundwater pollutants;
  • the approval and market surveillance of non-road mobile machinery circulating on public roads;
  • protective measures against pests of plants; and
  • transparency and integrity of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) rating activities.
