• But it’s currenly only in Japan on iOS and Android
• Medabots will be familiar to those of us who grew up in the aftermath of Pokemon’s huge success

If you’ve been glancing through some of the top releases around the world then we’ve got another one for you to lament over not being available. Medabot Survivors is currently set to launch on February 10th, bringing the hit role-playing franchise to mobile once more, but unfortunately (say it with me) only in Japan.

Medabots will likely be briefly familiar to some of you, in the aftermath of Pokemon’s success there was a big push to bring virtually anything Japanese that had merchandising potential over to the West. Most of us are likely familiar with Digimon (and some would say it even outclasses Pokemon), but Medabots was one of those franchises that never quite caught on.

But back in its native Japan, Medabots has proven to be a major powerhouse of a franchise. Perhaps not quite world-beating, but definitely more popular than it ever was over here. Little surprise then that the Survivors-like genre is its next step, although for now you happy few Medabots fans won’t be getting your mitts on it as it remains Japan-only.

Surviving survivors

While it may be called Survivors-like the genre has existed for far longer than the flagship release Vampire Survivors. However, I think the release of Medabot Survivors is not just a boon for fans, but also interesting to look at as we see this genre slowly spread like wildfire all around the globe.

Having been made vaguely familiar with how it all works over in Japan as well I can assure you there are plenty of great releases that, unfortunately, we may never see. Hopefully, if Medabot Survivors turns out to be a crowd-pleaser though we might get our mitts on it someday.
