Woman ID’d in fatal Fresno County mountain ******. Child survived stranded at scene

A 30-year-old woman was killed and a 7-year-old child was injured in an overnight single-vehicle collision on Highway 168 near Prather in eastern Fresno County.

The California Highway Patrol reported that a concerned person called 911 on Monday morning to say the woman had failed to arrive home as expected after midnight.

A “Be On the Lookout” alert was broadcast for the missing driver and the vehicle.

CHP spokesperson Mike Salas said a few hours later officers were notified of a child found on the right shoulder of Highway 168, east of Qualls Prather Road.

Officers and deputies responded and found that the woman’s Subaru had left the roadway and overturned several times down an embankment.

The woman was found outside of the vehicle. She was identified by the coroner as Bailie French of ****** Valley.

“It appears neither the driver nor the child was wearing seatbelts during the ******,” Salas said. “It remains unclear whether the driver was ejected from the vehicle or exited it after the ****** occurred.”

The 7-year-old boy was taken to Valley Children’s Hospital with moderate to major injuries.

Salas said the child was at the ****** site for 12 hours before going to the highway for help.

He was reunited with his father at the hospital, Salas said.

The ****** is under investigation and CHP is waiting for toxicology results to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor.
