Helldivers 2 Featuring More-than-4 Player Squads isn’t Out of the Question

Helldivers 2 is a title that has received much acclaim from fans and critics due to being one of the best live-service titles to ever come out in recent times. The title was developed by Arrowhead Games Studios exclusively for the PlayStation 5 and PC, with rumors of the title coming to Xbox doing the rounds, too.

The title focuses heavily on multiplayer co-op, and its gameplay loop sees various players teaming up with each other and taking on AI opponents. However, the squad limit for the title is only 4; however, as per recent news, the studio responsible for the game’s development might not be opposed to increasing this limit further down the line.

Helldivers 2 might ramp up the number of maximum party members.

The entire conversation around the game’s member limit in a co-op party began on the Discord channel when the player asked Arrowhead Games’ Community Manager, Twinbeard, a question about the game’s co-op format.

Answering the player, the Twinbeard replied that they ‘don’t know‘ and are uncertain about it. Helldivers 2 is known for being chaotic, effortlessly funny, and very action-packed already, meaning the chaos will only increase if more players are added to the party.

The entire response to the question can be found below:

The short answer is that I don’t know. I do know that if we ever go down that route, it would require a lot of work. If it’s ever a thing (which I’m not at all sure it will be), it’s in the distant future.

While the response isn’t strictly ****** or white, it does highlight that the feature isn’t completely ruled out, which is good if one thinks about the title’s longevity in the market. But it also highlights the hardship that the team of developers will have to undergo to work on the feature if it is finalized.

Helldivers 2 is already chaotic enough.

In co-op parties, the more-the-merrier adage usually applies in most scenarios. However, a PvE shooter, famous for throwing unpredictable ****** classes and planetary hazards at the players, requires excellent coordination and teamwork, which is bound to get more challenging to ******** as the number of players increases.

Another aspect is when it comes to **********. The game’s servers have already flared up more than just a few times in the few months it has been out, so experimenting with them could potentially risk stability.

Thirdly, the community manager also admitted that it would require a lot of work from the developer. While Arrowhead has repeatedly proven that it provides new content and fixes known bugs and issues promptly, it is, after all, an independent studio, meaning that rolling out a dramatic change can take a lot of time.

Would you be interested in the title allowing more than four party members in a battle? Do you think it would be chaotic or fun? We would love to know your thoughts in the comment section below!
