, Yoshida acknowledged that he had anticipated more surprises. He expressed his hope that Nintendo would continue to surprise people with the Switch 2.

He also expressed empathy, saying that leaks are disappointing and that, personally, he prefers to be taken by surprise when official announcements are made. However, he isn’t hopeful that there won’t be any more leaks. This is what he stated:

I thought the Switch 2 announcement could have been a larger reveal. I was surprised there were not many surprises.

Yoshida, like the majority of Nintendo fans, appears eager to find out what the company plans to release for its next home console. Although, he went on to express concerns regarding the difficulties of the upcoming console’s development plans amidst continuous leaks.

It must be difficult for the publisher to deal with leaks that keep coming up online because Nintendo is notorious for making big announcements out of the blue. According to Yoshida, hopefully the leaks will be stopped and something interesting will be found at the Switch 2 Direct in April.

The only aspect of the reveal that seemed interesting, according to Yoshida during the interview, was the apparent use of Joy-Cons as a mouse. Even though this had already been leaked, the video, which shows the Joy-Cons flying around, seems to support it.

For gamers who prefer using mouse controls, he said, having a built-in mouse function might make sense because the Nintendo Switch 2 will be more powerful than its predecessor and there are rumors that Call of Duty will be available on Nintendo systems.

Yoshida did, however, add that he hoped it would be used in a “weird, amazing way, something that people won’t anticipate,” referring to Nintendo’s tendency to incorporate innovative and intriguing concepts into its systems.

After 31 years with Sony, Yoshida retired in January, and since then, he has been fairly vocal on a range of subjects. He expressed his surprise at Horizon Forbidden West‘s poor sales performance in comparison to Horizon Zero Dawn shortly after he retired, and more recently, he offered his thoughts on the PS Vita’s failure. He claimed a few days ago that The Last Guardian would have been canceled by a typical publisher.
