Alby Park was full of community-focused activities on Saturday and Sunday to celebrate the Australia Day long weekend by uniting residents, championing *********** values, and honouring the community. On Saturday, a family fun day featured free access to the Narrogin Regional Leisure Centre pool, children’s inflatables to play on, and a selection of treats. Credit: The Shire of Narrogin Sunday’s community breakfast had a spread of hot and cold meal choices from 7.30am. A citizenship ceremony symbolised the essence of the day as new citizens were officially welcomed. Two exceptional volunteers were acknowledged during the Bush Fire Brigade Service Awards ceremony for their longstanding dedication to community safety and protection. Geoff Ballard received the 30-year long service medal, and Tanya Hansen received the five-year service medal. The Community Citizen of the Year Awards followed, honouring three upstanding people and one group that have shown extraordinary leadership, selflessness and dedication to the community. Vicki Chadwick was named citizen of the year for her years of volunteer work, leadership roles, and contributions to the shire. The young citizen of the year award was presented to 14-year-old Mia Ewen for her ambition and leading nature. Colin Ward received the senior citizen of the year award for his 30 years of volunteer work and involvement in numerous community-focused organisations while offering support to vulnerable people and newcomers. The active citizenship (group or event) award was accepted by Sister Sahaya on behalf of Divine You Incorporated for its work providing emergency food relief, temporary accommodation for women, aiding the elderly, and those fighting end-of-life challenges.
