She and her mother Anka Bergman both survived, with Mrs Clarke saying one of the reasons for this was that the Germans had run out of gas for the gas chambers just a day earlier. “She always said she was screaming not only because she was in labour but because she thought this was her very last minute on earth,” said Mrs Clarke.
