Unlike Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman Can’t Escape Jeff the Land Shark in Marvel Rivals

NetEase Games’ Marvel Rivals Season 1 brings with it the Fantastic Four, all four members of which possess some incredible abilities that synergize well with the other members of the game. The current build of the game has access to only two of these four characters – Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman.

Susan Storm aka Invisible Woman has become quite a hit within the playerbase, thanks to her unique gameplay, abilities and somewhat controversial skin. However, players attempting to play through a game with this particular character might notice a severe disadvantage when paired against Jeff the Land Shark – resulting in quick and often baffling deaths.

Jeff has been quite the subject of controversy and frustration for a lot of players.

Clearly expressing their frustration at the current state of the game surrounding this particular Marvel Rivals character, a post on the r/MarvelRivals subreddit goes on to showcase how Invisible Woman was eliminated by Jeff the Land Shark during an intense PvP battle. This was despite being seemingly ‘out of range’ on an upper platform. 

This is quite the peculiar behavior – given that characters such as Mr. Fantastic and The Punisher can easily avoid being swallowed by Jeff when using certain moves – while Invisible Woman has no defense.

A Redditor also attempted to offer a more technical explanation, implying that the Jeff has an effective vertical range of around 5 meters. The poster did, however, confuse feet for meters initially which resulted in a rather humorous exchange mentioning that the cast wouldn’t be over 5 feet if this was the case.

Given the absurd nature of the gameplay clip, it is very likely that this particular interaction was bugged from the start, since the game terrain should have prevented the death from happening in the first place.

Overall, the community does not appear to be quite pleased with the current state of Marvel Rivals, calling out developer NetEase Games for their lack of attention to certain overpowered heroes. While Rivals is indeed fun to play (managing to draw in well over 600,000+ players at an all time peak), certain aspects – especially with regards to game balance need to be vastly improved upon.

Nerfs, buffs and counters are necessary to make the game play a whole lot better, and simultaneously keep its image favorable in the eyes of the player base. After all, community feedback is important to a game’s well being, and Rivals may soon be left without a player base if things continue unchecked.
