An earthquake centered off the coast of New England was felt in several communities across Massachusetts on Monday.

a 3.8-magnitude earthquake southeast of York Harbor, Maine, just before 10:30 a.m. York Harbor is 66.5 miles northeast of Boston.

Residents in communities including Wakefield, Woburn, Winchester, Winthrop, Boston, Foxboro, Mansfield, Newburyport, Hudson, Scituate, Medford, Marlboro, and Walpole told Boston 25 News that they felt the earthquake.

A Wakefield resident told Boston 25 News that the earthquake caused their home to “rattle, shake, and vibrate.”

In an email, one Boston 25 News viewer wrote, ”Was there an earthquake on the North Shore just now?”

Many people on social media also reported feeling the earthquake.

“Ouch! Felt it here in Rowley and it was a loud pop and almost hurt my ears,” a Boston 25

A resident of Salisbury commented, “Sounded like a freight train before the entire house shook.”

The USGS initially categorized the earthquake as 4.1 magnitude but downgraded it slightly to 3.9 and then 3.8.

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency said there were no reports of damage in the Bay State.

“MEMA has received reports of shaking felt in MA, but no reports of damage at this time,” the agency said in a statement. “Remember, during an earthquake: drop, cover, and hold on for safety.”
