Buc-ee’s suing North Texas gas station chain over logo dispute: lawsuit

The Buc-ee’s truck stop chain has sued a North Texas company, claiming that the company’s logo infringes on Buc-ee’s’ copyright, according to a copy of the complaint.

The suit, filed in federal court Jan. 10, alleges that Irving-based chain Super Fuels’ logo is so similar to the Buc-ee’s logo that it is “likely to cause confusion among consumers in the relevant market,” according to the complaint.

Super Fuels operates three locations in Dallas County, according to the suit.

Its logo features a brown dog in a cape against a circular background, which lawyers for Buc-ee’s claim is likely to cause confusion among consumers, according to the suit.

The resulting confusion caused a loss in sales for Buc-ee’s, the suit alleges.

Super Fuels denied that its logo constituted copyright infringement, according to a copy of a response filed on Jan. 17.

Lawyers for Buc-ee’s demanded a permanent injunction to stop the usage of the Super Fuels logo, as well as damages and the destruction of all property bearing that logo.
