Kyle Lee unstoppable in home waters with third as Busselton local sweeps Open Water Championships

South West swimming sensation Kyle Lee has swept the national open water titles in his home region, winning a third gold medal for the tournament on Sunday.

Having already achieved success in both the 10km open and mixed 4×1.25km relay events, Lee powered home to claim an incredible third gold with the men’s 5km open title at the *********** Open Water Swimming Championships in Busselton.

Having been happy to bide his time Lee pounced on the last lap to overhaul Noosa’s Thomas Raymond (53:34.90) and Melbourne’s Sloman (53:38.40) to power home and take the win in a time of 53:33:6.

The wins not only completed a perfect Championships for Lee but also guaranteed his place for the World Aquatics Singapore World Championships and in the Dolphins team for next month’s World Cup in Egypt.

“To qualify for Singapore (Worlds) doesn’t feel quite real … and to now have that 5km spot is awesome. While it was great to have that break after the Olympics and to reset, it’s also great to be back in the water,” Lee said.

“I haven’t thought much beyond Singapore and there’s a few personal things to tick off but I am really enjoying being back at home, racing today in front of family and friends,” he said.

Olympic silver medalist Moesha Johnson claimed gold in the women’s event leading from start to finish in the women’s 5km open having also claimed the 10km open title on Thursday.
