Macarthur expecting more January transfer movement

Coach Mile Sterjovski believes Macarthur’s flurry of mid-season transfer activity is proof the club’s vision for success is working as he urged star winger Jed Drew to remain at the Bulls and build on his breakout campaign.

Drew is the latest Macarthur player attracting interest from overseas clubs after setting up the winning goal in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Melbourne City.

The 21-year-old winger has six goals and seven assists in the A-League Men this season.

Earlier in the week, the Bulls sold 20-year-old attacker Ariath Piol to Major League Soccer’s Real Salt Lake after just 11 senior games.

And defender Oli Jones did not feature in the narrow win over City as he nears a permanent move to a Danish side, understood to be Randers, in the January window.

Their exits follow the ***** of Raphael Borgues Rodrigues to Coventry City last year.

“We’ve done well in identifying good players and players that have something special,” Sterjovski said.

“It’s a discussion from the top with our CEO and with our staff about making the right decisions like that.

“That combined with a very good environment at our club, I think it’s a recipe for success.

“It’s shown in the last couple of years that we are producing some good players and the club is now getting the reward with some of them being sold.”

Drew could be the latest to head for the exit with reports earlier this week linking him with deals in Sweden and Austria.

But Sterjovski urged the Olyroos flyer Drew not to rush into the first deal that came along.

“I stay out of those discussions until something concrete is there,” Sterjovski said.

“When you look at his form – he’s added consistency and he has got recognition.

“Is he ready to go overseas? It’s difficult to say. Everybody’s different when they get over there.

“In my opinion, I think he probably should stay and play a few more games in the A-League and get more experience.

“But if it happens to be now, when he decides to go, we wish him the best.

“I think a player that has more experience playing in the A-League is better suited to making it work when they get overseas.”
