Where will the northern lights be visible?

Part of New England have a chance to see the Northern Lights on Jan. 24, 2025.

Tonight’s forecast from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Center show a geomagnetic storm that could bring Vermont skies.

The storm might also be visible in New York, New Hampshire, Maine and a large swath of the northern Midwest.

When will the northern lights be visible?

The northern lights could be visible once the sun goes down in parts of the northern United States, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Center.

The aurora is not visible during the daylight hours, and is usually seen just after sunset or just before sunrise, according to NOAA. The agency says the best aurora is usually within an hour or two of midnight.
