Fast-moving Sepulveda Fire prompts evacuation warnings

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) – Firefighters battled a fast-moving brush fire off the 405 Freeway late Wednesday evening into Thursday morning that prompted evacuation warnings.

Crews with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to reports of the 1-acre blaze, dubbed the Sepulveda Fire, near Getty Center Drive exit at 11 p.m. as it was burning in medium to heavy brush and quickly spread to an estimated 20 acres with 0% containment.

the brush fire poses “a potential threat to life and or property. Those who require additional time to evacuation and those with pets and livestock should leave now.”

Aerial footage from Sky5 showed a heavy glow in the sky as flames burned in the pass, north of the Getty Center. Crews on the ground and in the air were working to contain the blaze as flames moved uphill in 10-mile-per-hour winds.

crews on the ground and in the air “made good progress on the fire,” and that there is currently no extension on the evacuation warning zone.

When Sky5 was forced to leave the scene, it was unclear if any structures were threatened, though unconfirmed reports suggested first responders were concerned about embers flying downrange of the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
