Perth punter goes to Karrinyup Shopping Centre to beat heat, leaves a cool $300k richer after scratchie win

She went to a shopping centre to beat the heat — and walked out a cool $300,000 richer.

The woman, aged in her 30s, went to Karrinyup Shopping Centre to enjoy some respite from the heatwave and decided to try her luck.

She went to the Full Hand Lottery Centre and bought a $20 Christmas Countdown scratchie.

“I thought an air-conditioned shopping centre was a great day trip in this weather,” the punter from the northern suburbs said. “It turned out to be a very good choice.

“As soon as I saw I had won I was so excited, I put the kids in the car and came straight to Lotterywest HQ.”

The winner plans to use her winnings to pay for her children’s braces and a new car.

Lotterywest spokeswoman Zoe Wender said thanks to Scratch’n’Win games last year, 47 WA players won Top Prizes worth a combined $4.67 million.

“Last year, Scratch’n’Win ticket sales resulted in almost $45 million raised for Lotterywest’s grants program,” she said.

“Lotterywest grants support communities across WA, including a grant of $315,575 to the Spiers Centre, to deliver crisis and emergency relief across the Cities of Joondalup, Wanneroo and Stirling.”The next chance for WA players to win big is in Tuesday’s $70 million OZ Lotto draw.

“If one person takes home the entire $70 million prize, they’ll become OZ Lotto’s biggest individual lottery winner,” Ms Wender said.
