The initiatives are part of a broader $22.5 million state-wide Community Safety package, which includes funding for additional CCTV cameras, a new regional policing incentive program, and support for youth programs. A key component of the plan is the installation of 20 new CCTV cameras across the Kimberley, including six in Broome, four in Kununurra, four in Halls Creek, three in Derby, and three in Fitzroy Crossing. This $407,000 investment is aimed at combatting crime by providing surveillance tools for local police. These cameras are part of a larger $2.3 million effort to deploy 64 new cameras in high-priority locations across the state. Minister for Police Paul Papalia said the new CCTV measures demonstrate the Labor Government’s commitment to lowering crime. “We are committed to tackling crime in the Kimberley and the new CCTV cameras will play a critical role in supporting police to identify and prosecute offenders,” Mr Papalia said. “There are more police officers on the beat in Western Australia than ever before, and this initiative will strengthen that presence.” The Kimberley will also receive a new Regional Policing Incentive Program, designed to attract more police officers to regional areas. The program will provide free accommodation for regional recruits at the WA Police Academy and guarantee them a placement in their home police district for the first four to six years of their careers. Kimberley MLA Divina D’Anna said the program will bolster policing across the region. “This regional policing boost will help recruit more local officers, ensuring a stronger police presence in the Kimberley,” Ms D’Anna said. “Only WA Labor has a credible plan to improve community safety and create more opportunities for local recruits.” Minister Papalia also announced the Labor Government’s $1 million investment into the Broome Police and Community Youth Centre (PCYC) to extend its SafeSPACE program for another two years. The youth diversion program helps steer young people away from crime and provides positive activities to keep them engaged and off the streets. “These initiatives build on the Cook Labor Government’s strong track record of tackling crime in the Kimberley,” Mr Papalia said. “We will continue to invest in programs that support local communities and help keep our regions safe.” This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up #Labors #pledges #million #enhance #Kimberley #safety This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up Link to comment https://hopzone.eu/forums/topic/198011-wa-labor%E2%80%99s-pledges-225-million-to-enhance-kimberley-safety/ Share on other sites
