After 34 years, an iconic British games company is changing its name

Team 17, one of the ***’s oldest video game companies, has announced it’s changing its name after 34 years.

Team 17 Group plc announced on Thursday that, beginning in early February, it will be known as ‘Everyplay Group plc,’ a rebrand it says better reflects the evolution of the business since it became a public company on the London Stock Exchange in 2018, and made big acquisition moves.

The rebranding only affects the Group’s brand identity, and the Team 17 name will live on as one of the three arms within the group, it said.

The three divisions are the video games label Team 17, the simulation game publisher Astragon Entertainment (acquired in 2022), and educational apps creator StoryToys (acquired in 2021).

Founded in 1990, Team 17 is best known for the Alien Breed, Worms, and Escapists games. It also published Overcooked, Yooka-Laylee, Yoku’s Island Express, and Blasphemous.

Steve Bell, Group CEO, commented: “I am excited to be unveiling our new Group brand today, which we believe better represents our business which has evolved greatly since the IPO and reflects our DNA to never stop playing.

“This rebrand not only creates an ideal backdrop to foster greater cross-collaboration internally but also reflects our aspirations to expand our reach across complementary sectors within the broader indie market.

“Fundamentally, we want to create pioneering and captivating experiences that enrich and inspire players around the world, and I firmly believe everplay will become synonymous with creating games that deliver a lifetime of play.”
