MEPs to call for action against Russian disinformation on Ukraine

At noon, Parliament will vote on a resolution focused on Russia’s manipulation of history and use of false narratives to justify its war of aggression against Ukraine. The draft text rejects the various claims made by the Russian regime as futile attempts to justify an ******** war of aggression, demands sanctions against Russian media outlets spreading disinformation be expanded and sets out the concerns of MEPs about decisions by several social media companies to relax fact-checking rules.

Parliament to condemn Nicolás Maduro’s illegitimate reign in Venezuela

In a vote on a resolution at noon on the critical situation in Venezuela after the investiture of President Maduro, MEPs are expected to demand sanctions are expanded to Nicolás Maduro and his inner circle as well as the revocation of the unjustified arrest warrant issued for President-elect Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia. The draft text also stresses that the Venezuelan regime has no democratic legitimacy and calls Maduro’s presidency an unlawful attempt to remain in power by force.

Cryptocurrencies: MEPs debate the need for global standards

From around 10.15 MEPs will discuss global crypto assets rules with Commissioner Brunner, including how to ensure investor protection, fight financial crime, and ensure EU competitiveness. Innovation in digital finance in the EU and its competitiveness compared to global actors are also set to come up in the debate.
