Bull Creek bushfire: Locals warned of flying embers as firefighters battle blaze near All Saints College

City of Melville residents have been warned of flying embers as firefighters battle an out-of-control bushfire just metres from a prestigious private school.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued a watch and act about 11.40am on Thursday for residents on both side of Karel Avenue including The Escarpment to the east, Burrendah Boulevard and Parry Avenue to the south, Lefroy Road and Mossman Crescent to the west and Apsley Road to the north in parts of Willetton and Bull Creek in the City of Melville.

“There is a possible threat to lives and homes,” a DFES spokesperson said.

“Burning embers are likely to be blown around your home and could spark a fire.

“If your plan is to leave, leave now.”

It is understood the fire — which was first reported about 10.50am — started on a median strip near Karel Avenue, just metres from All Saints College.

Water bombers and firefighters are on the scene fighting the blaze.

A bushfire advice is also in place for people west of Karel Avenue in an area bounded by Leach Highway to the north, Camm Avenue to the west, Parry Avenue to the south and Lefroy and Mossman Crescent to the east in parts of Bull Creek in the City of Melville.

All Saints College is included in the bushfire watch and act zone.

“There is no threat to lives or homes,” a DFES spokesperson said.

“Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes.

“Stay alert and monitor your surroundings.”

A number of roads including Karel Avenue have been closed.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully.
