Aussie music festival Splendour in the Grass cancelled second year in a row

Aussie music festival Splendour in the Grass has been cancelled for the second year in a row.

The announcement was made via a social media post on Thursday afternoon.

Festivalgoers were told to “think of it as a breather”.

“Splendour needs a little more time to recharge and we won’t be back this year,” promoters Secret Sounds said in a statement shared on social media.

“Think of it as a breather so we can come back even ******* and better when the time is right.

“Lots of other huge events on the horizon so keep an ear to the ground in the coming months — we can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on!”

The event, which would typically take place in the North Byron Parklands in NSW’s northern rivers region in July, was also cancelled last year.

However unlike this year, tickets had already been sold and artists already booked when the 2024 event was axed.

Kylie Minogue was slated to make her big return to Australia at the event, added to the bill along with other big names including FUTURE and Turnstile before organisers revealed it was cancelled due to “unexpected events”.

“We know there were many fans excited for this year’s line-up and all the great artists planning to join us, but due to unexpected events, we’ll be taking the year off,” a 2024 statement read.

“Ticket holders will be refunded automatically by Moshtix.

“We thank you for your understanding and will be working hard to be back in future years.”

Aussies have flocked to social media to air their disappointment.

“And just like that we lose another festival,” one commented.

“Rest in peace Splendour,” another wrote.

“2026 return, headliner Hilltop Hoods,” commented another.
