Ratchet & Clank studio Insomniac ‘interested’ in game-to-screen adaptations

Insomniac Games has said it’s interested in its properties potentially being adapted for film or TV.

Earlier today, it was announced that Insomniac president Ted Price will retire in March, more than 30 years after founding the Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank studio.

Following his departure, Insomniac veterans Chad Dezern, Ryan Schneider and Jen Huang will step up from their current roles to serve as co-studio heads.

An animated Ratchet & Clank film was released in 2016, and while it reviewed poorly and flopped commercially, Schneider told

the team is interested in more opportunities for game-to-screen adaptations.

“I think back to the Ratchet & Clank film from several years ago. And we kind of got an early start on that. So, of course, we’re interested in that kind of thing. We love Ratchet & Clank in particular,” he said.

Insomniac was acquired in 2019 by Sony, which has successfully adapted a number of PlayStation properties for film and TV in recent years, including Uncharted and The Last of Us.

Earlier this month, Sony announced films based on Helldivers and Horizon: Zero Dawn are in the works.

Ghost of Tsushima Legends is receiving an anime adaption too. Co-produced by Aniplex and Crunchyroll, the series will debut in 2027.

And HBO recently offered a new look at Season 2 of The Last of Us, which will launch in April.
