Mashina is the latest game from Talha & Jack Co, the Scottish indie studio behind the critically praised Judero. The game puts players in the role of the titular Mashina, a happy mining robot who has to find minerals “to help mend, build and nurture her quirky robot community”. Mashina has to explore various caves and dig through them to locate minerals, which she then has to store in her backpack (which has limited storage space, and has a Resident Evil 4 style inventory management puzzle system) then deposit them back at her underground base. She can then use these minerals to build large machines, which can help her to excavate the mines quicker. As in the studio’s previous game, all the visuals and animations in Mashina are created using traditional stop-motion techniques with real handcrafted objects. “For us, this art style invokes something nostalgic,” the studio says, “in part comical but perhaps a little quirky too.” The game’s music, meanwhile, makes use of retro synths to create what’s described as “an homage to GameCube era music”, and will feature in-game radio stations. Mashina is set for release later this year, and can be backed on This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up , where the studio is hoping to raise £12,000 ($14,800) to complete development.
