Producers Guild Nominations Narrow Down the Oscar Field

The Producers Guild of America announced the 10 films nominated for its best feature award on Thursday, after delaying the announcement because of the continuing wildfires ravaging Los Angeles.

Here is the producers’ list of feature-film nominees:

“Anora”

“The Brutalist”

“A Complete Unknown”

“Conclave”

“Dune: Part Two”

“Emilia Pérez”

“A Real Pain”

“September 5”

“The Substance”

“Wicked”

The Producers Guild is considered the group with the best track record of predicting the Oscars. Last year, all 10 PGA nominees made the Oscars’ best-picture lineup. When there is a divergence between the two groups, it’s typically because the PGA favors studio blockbusters and the academy leans toward international and independent films.

There is still wiggle room, then, for two PGA-snubbed films that remain on the bubble of a best-picture nomination, “Sing Sing” and “Nickel Boys.” But the PGA list is good news for the Paramount release “September 5,” which scored a Golden Globe nomination for best drama but has otherwise had a fairly quiet awards-season run. With Oscar voting extended because of the fires, more academy members may be moved to screen this thriller about television journalists covering a massacre at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Only four films this season have received top nominations from the producers, directors and actors guilds: “Anora,” “Conclave,” “Emilia Pérez” and “A Complete Unknown.” (“Anora” and “A Complete Unknown” also picked up Writers Guild nominations, which the other two films were ineligible for.) Alongside “The Brutalist” and “Wicked,” these films should receive the lion’s share of mentions when the Oscar nominations are announced on Jan. 23.

The PGA ceremony will be held Feb. 8 at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles. Below are the other film categories. For the complete list of nominations, including television contenders, go to
