Opportunity to shine for Bunbury women dressing for success

Women looking for a boost on the journey into the professional world were treated by international charity Dress for Success last week.

The Dress for Success team arrived in Bunbury to give clothes, confidence and support to women in need, as well as styling and makeup tips. .

Volunteer outreach lead Chaynika Sethi said her role was to co-ordinate one-on-one styling sessions for those needing a helping hand to get back into work.

“I have a fashion background, I am a fashion designer. I needed to be part of something ******* than myself — empowering women,” she said.

“We see a transformation in the women straight away. It’s such a feel-good factor — for volunteers it comes from our heart and we want to be here. The transformation of the client is the best part. For me it’s been a wonderful journey.”

Job seeker Kirstie King said she felt her confidence grow during the session, despite a challenging road back into the job market with ongoing health difficulties.

Volunteer Stephanie Gann said she had a background in beauty and now worked as an education assistant and is studying to be a kindergarten teacher.

She put her hand up to help at the session to give back to others.

“It’s really good to do this for people, to encourage people to look their best and look professional,” she said.

The WA branch of Dress for Success is based in Subiaco, and the organisation relies on the generosity of physical and monetary donations, volunteers and monthly sales.

Women can either book a one-on-one styling session at the Subiaco boutique or benefit from outreach sessions such as the regular visits to Bunbury and Busselton, or they can opt for an virtual support session online.

The service also offers advice on resumes and online career profiles, with the styling sessions covering clothes, shoes, bags and make-up tips.
