More than nine months after pulling out of his Las Vegas bout with Tszyu, former unified welterweight world champion Thurman will attempt a comeback when he takes on rising local star Brock Jarvis at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on March 12. It will be his second fight since his 2019 loss to Manny Pacquiao, having scored a unanimous points win over Mario Barrios in 2022. The 35-year-old was scheduled to return to the ring against Tszyu in March last year before tearing a bicep muscle. Sensing opportunity with Tszyu stripped of his belts after dismal back-to-back losses, Thurman has promised a career revival akin to “Muhammad Ali after prison” when he comes face-to-face with Jarvis. Tszyu does not yet have a fight scheduled in the aftermath of his one-sided defeat by Bakhram Murtazaliev in October. “This is going to be one of the greatest comebacks in 2025,” Thurman told Fox Sports on Wednesday. “Time does not take away the ability of champions. “I’m going to warm up my skills and talent, remind people of who Keith Thurman is by beating up some kangaroos. “I’m going to fly over there, I’m going to get me this kangaroo (Jarvis) and I’m going to come back to America and I’ll come get Tszyu.” Jarvis is just as opportunistic, hoping a win against the American will propel him into the sport’s elite and secure a match with Tszyu’s younger brother Nikita. Trained by Hall of Famer Jeff Fenech, 27-year-old Jarvis has quietly pieced together his rebound after suffering a brutal first-round knock-out by compatriot Liam Paro in their super-lightweight title fight in 2022. Moving up four divisions, Jarvis defeated Adrian Rodriguez in December – his first fight since beating Marlon Paniamogan in March 2023. “I want those big fights,” Jarvis told AAP. “(The fight against Thurman) is an amazing opportunity for me and the timing is right for me. “I can see Keith at the back end of his career, he’s looking for tune-up fights. “I want Nikita (Tszyu) because he has a big mouth, and I want to close it.” Michael Zerafa, longtime foe of the elder Tszyu brother, will take on ******* middleweight Besir Ay on the undercard, while Mateo Tapia has yet to lock in his opponent.
