An unannounced Warhammer RPG has reportedly been cancelled

An unannounced Warhammer RPG was seemingly canceled last year after funding for the project was withdrawn by its publisher.

According to

, the title had been in development at Thought Pennies, which describes itself as “a fully remote role-playing game studio creating games with social storytelling”.

the company had been forced “shrink the size of the studio” after funding was pulled for an unannounced project.

“Over the last three years at Thought Pennies we built something amazing. We never missed a milestone, our feedback was great, our partnerships strong,” he wrote.

“We went from two people and a PowerPoint to a team of almost sixty heavily-vetted, incredibly independent, passionate professionals. Our publisher changed strategic direction, however, and our previous project is now without funding.”

According to the newly uncovered LinkedIn profiles of two developers who left the studio in November, Thought Pennies had been making an “unannounced Warhammer game”.

A senior technical artist also seemingly affected by the cuts said they’d been working on “a cancelled fantasy live service RPG”.

Another post spotted by MP1ST described the game as a third person “co-op PvE action RPG with a cast of unique heroes and playstyles” featuring melee and ranged combat, and monstrous enemies set in a dark fantasy world.

last week that it’s on the lookout for its next potential video game hit, following Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, which was one of last year’s biggest new releases.

Reporting the company’s half-yearly results for the 26 weeks ended December 1, 2024, CEO Kevin Rountree said: “During the *******, our licensing partners launched two new video games; Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, a third person shooter for PC and console and Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks, a combat racing game.

“Established games continue to contribute, alongside royalty income earned following the success of Space Marine 2. We recognize that successes like these for Warhammer are not a given in the world of video games. Clearly we are looking for the next one. We remain cautious when forecasting royalty income.”
