Eternal Strands debuts UE5 trailer, PC specs

Eternal Strands is an upcoming independent action adventure that channels The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Monster Hunter, and Shadow of the Colossus. While this is the debut title of developers Yellow Brick Games, don’t be fooled by that. Eternal Strands is developed by industry veterans who have worked on Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and Assassin’s Creed titles.

This pedigree is certainly at display in the visuals and tech departments. Eternal Strands debuts a new Unreal Engine 5 trailer to show off its tech ahead of release. PC requirements have also been revealed by the developers.

The trailer is an interview with Yellow Brick Games Chief Technology Officer Louis Tremblay. Tremblay talks about the bells and whistles that underpin Eternal Strands and its use of Unreal Engine 5. This includes Nanite, which renders pixel scale detail and high object counts as well as Lumen, which provides full dynamic global illumination and reflections.

Unreal Engine 5 is becoming widely adopted in the industry due to its versatility and collection of tools and editors. Hellblade 2, our 2024 Smash Jump Outstanding Technical Achievement winner, also employed Unreal Engine 5 to deliver outstanding graphical fidelity.

While Hellblade 2 is more taxing on PC hardware requirements, players will be pleased to know that Eternal Strands won’t break your bank in order to run it well. Yellow Brick Games revealed the full specs for minimum and recommended PC settings.

For PC folks who plan to play Eternal Strands’ on January 21st (free PC only demo) or 28th (full release), here are the minimum and recommended system requirements

In summary, players are expected to run an 8 to 16 GB graphics card for recommended settings that reflect a game performance at 60fps and an upscaled resolution from 1440p. Nonetheless, the true test of Eternal Strands’ visuals and performance comes with the PC only demo launch this Tuesday, January 21, and the title’s full release on January 28.

We are excited to see the work that Yellow Brick Games have put in their debut title. Stay tuned for our upcoming review of Eternal Strands.

Eternal Strands releases January 28 on PC, Xbox Game Pass, and PS5.
