Nothing ventured nothing gained. Sony’s approach was wrong in that they went in too hard too fast, they need to and have obviously learned from this. Being so public about their plans created an unnecessary focus on these efforts failing or succeeding and a perpetual meta conversation around them. That was the biggest mistake not trying in the first place becuase playstation needs to diversify it’s portfolio. Being totally reliant on 3rd parties for live service on their platform exposes them to risk in the long-term.

swooping in and buying Activision showed them how vulnerable they were in this regard, but they over reacted.
