Here’s where you can stay warm. With another blast of arctic air looming on the horizon, Corpus Christi city officials are planning to open a series of warming centers — places where the public can find respite from the cold during the day — as well as a shelter for those who need a safe, and heated, place to stay. Wind chill is expected to drop the “feel like” temperature to as low as the low 30s on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday, and the mid-20s on Tuesday, according to a forecast shared on social media by the local office of the National Weather Service late Thursday. Highs are expected to range between the 40s and 50s on Sunday and Monday and 30s and 40s on Tuesday, according to the agency’s social media posts, with lows ranging from the 20s to 30s on Monday and Tuesday night. There’s potential for precipitation overnight Monday into Tuesday, but there is also “considerable uncertainty,” the message showed. Should there be precipitation, “freezing rain is the main threat, but sleet and snow remain possible,” according to an NWS graphic. Those chances are about 29% of freezing rain amounting to at least 0.01 inch, and a 20% chance of snow of at least 0.1 inch, the forecast shows. Where to warm up The Corpus Christi Natatorium, 3202 Waldron Road, will serve as an overnight shelter and warming center beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday and continuing through late Wednesday morning, according to city officials. Also planned is the operation of daytime warming centers Tuesday and Wednesday. The Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority is offering no-cost rides to the city’s overnight shelter, as well as the warming centers, a city memo shows. As of Friday, warming centers were set to be open at the following locations, according to officials.
