Busselton Bushfire: Out of control and unpredictable bushfire sparks watch and act warning

A bushfire in the South West has become out-of-control with those in the area urged to plan ahead or leave now.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued a Watch and Act warning on Saturday afternoon after a fire sparked in Tutunup in the City of Busselton just after 7pm on Friday.

People bounded by Downs Road, Capel-Tutunup Road, Tutunup Road, Tompsett Road, Oates Road, Ludlow-Hithergreen Road, and the surrounding areas in parts of Tutunup, Ruabon, and Abba River have been urged to leave now if their plan is to leave.

The bushfire remains out-of-control and unpredictable with winds expected to reach 25km to 30km/h later in the evening.

For those planning to leave, they are urged to take an emergency kit which should include a radio that runs off batteries, a first aid kit, a woollen blanket, phones, protective clothing, medication and irreplaceable valuables.

DFES urged those who plan to stay to ensure they are mentally and physically prepared with protective clothing and an independent water supply.

Evaporative aircons should be turned off but water should be kept running through the system to prevent embers entering the home and flammable materials should be moved away from the home.
