Go Vita Kalgoorlie expands presence in city with larger shop space and coeliac safe cafe

A popular Hannan Street health and nutrition hub has marked a new chapter with the opening of a larger shop space, improved clinic facilities and new cafe.

Go Vita Kalgoorlie has moved to 282 Hannan Street, across the road from its previous location which the business had occupied since 1998.

Store owner and naturopath Christine Slater said the new space was much more than just a health food shop and offered better naturopathy clinic facilities and a “grab-n-go” cafe which served a coeliac-safe menu.

“The new space has enabled us to offer a lot more,” she said.

“We’ve added the coffee shop which is amazing, it’s 100 per cent gluten free and coeliac safe, which is not offered anywhere else in Kalgoorlie.”

The business stocks a range of health foods and naturopathic supplies, including vitamin and mineral supplements, and natural fitness and herbal products.

The store also offers naturopathic and health advice in store.

Ms Slater purchased the local branch in 2019 from Chantelle and Matthew Mullins and soon dreamt up plans to expand its presence in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

“We outgrew the (old shop) within about six months … and said ‘we need to do something different’,” she said.

“We’ve grown it from strength to strength by adding a naturopathic clinic and the grab-n-go cafe and coffee shop was just a natural progression.”

The new location opened on Christmas Eve.

Ms Slater said the community’s support had been “amazing”, with the specialist food cafe a hit with locals and those with coeliac disease.

“We offer organic coffee and a gluten-free (menu) and we’ve had a lot of people coming in because that’s the service that they’ve always wanted,” she said.

“People who are coeliac get sick if they eat gluten.

“All these stories have come out … where people get glutened when they eat at other establishments because the staff don’t understand the importance (of gluten-free meals).

“There can be cross-contamination in the kitchen from fryers of chips and things like that.

“The demand is much higher than I expected, just because there is absolutely nothing like it in town.

“We’ve already had a lot of people who are coming in daily for their lunch and for a coffee, which is really flattering.”

Ms Salter said the business would soon offer yoga classes in the new space.
