PHILADELPHIA – A weekend snow storm is expected to bring measurable accumulations to the Philadelphia-area during the Eagles playoff game on Sunday and into Sunday night.

The Sunday snow storm will be preceded by a Saturday with showers and highs in the mid-40s.

Models are still coming into focus on exactly how much snow is expected to fall in Philadelphia.

Temperatures will plummet into the 20s on Monday and drop into the teens by the middle of next week with lows expected to be in the single digits.

What we know

Seasonal temperatures will stick around on Saturday, but rain showers will move across the area by the late morning and into the afternoon.

A cold front will push temperatures below freezing and set the stage for measurable snowfall that will start around lunchtime and continue through the night.

Timeline

Snow will move in from the south and west around noon on Sunday and become more widespread as the afternoon continues.

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for portions of Berks, Chester, Lehigh, Montgomery and Bucks counties by the National Weather Service as they forecast 5–8 inches of snow for those locales. A Winter Storm Watch has also been issued for portions of Northampton County and northern New Jersey where forecasters believe those areas could see 6–10 inches of snow.

Look for the first flakes to fall in Philadelphia before the game begins and will continue to snow in earnest through the game.

FOX 29’s Scott Williams says the heaviest band of snow looks to be north and west of Philadelphia, but could shift closer to the city depending on the track of the storm.

Temperatures will plummet into the 20s and teens over the next several days to freeze the blanket of freshly fallen snow.

By the numbers

Models are still coming into agreement about exactly how much snow will fall on Sunday, but forecasters are expecting measurable totals.

FOX 29’s Weather Authority is saying the farther south and east you travel, the less snow, in the order of a coating to 2 inches. All other points could see anywhere from 2 to 5 inches.

There is a potential in the areas of the Winter Storm Watch where we could see 5-8 inches.
