Third man accused of stealing safe from Billerica VFW arrested

Peter George Poulakos, 32, of Lowell, is charged with breaking and entering in the nighttime, conspiracy, larceny over $1,200, breaking into a depository, and larceny from a building.

On January 13, police were alerted by a janitor at the Solomon VFW Post around 8 a.m. that the safe was missing and someone had broken in overnight. The bartender said the safe was still inside the building when they left the previous night.

Using evidence at the scene and surveillance video from the area, police identified a pickup truck that transported the safe from the VFW.

Authorities identified Poulakos, along with 53-year-old Christopher John Silva, and 47-year-old San Sin, both of Lowell as suspects.

On January 15, officers executed a search warrant on a Wright Street address in Lowell, arresting Silva and Sin in the process. Cash and evidence related to the break-in and theft of the safe were also found at the residence, according to authorities.

The discarded safe itself was recovered in Lowell in a different area.

On Friday around 8:30 a.m., Poulakos was located at the same Wright Street home where officers served the search warrant just days before.

Poulakos was taken into custody and will be arraigned in Lowell District Court.

Silva and Sin were previously arraigned. Their cases remain pending.

A fourth person, a 49-year-old Lowell man, will be summonsed to court at a later date for his role in the robbery. His name was not released by police.
