Ex-Finnish PM secures court order against her stalker

Former Finnish prime minister Sanna Marin has secured a court order banning a 36-year-old man from making contact with her, following her or observing her for one year.

Finland’s STT news agency reported that the man had been seen near Marin’s residence over a three-week ******* in December and had also attempted to gain access to it.

He was detained on December 24 after ringing the doorbell and asking to be let in.

According to the report, the man denied the charges during the hearing which was held in part behind closed doors.

Marin, a social democrat, was prime minister from 2019 to 2023, at times serving as the world’s youngest prime minister.

Following defeat for her party in the 2023 parliamentary elections, Marin withdrew from Finnish politics to take up a post as strategic adviser to the Tony Blair Institute, a non-profit organisation set up by the former United Kingdom prime minister to support political centrism and oppose extremism.

The 39-year-old former prime minister continues to be one of Finland’s most high-profile personalities.
