It appears that the universes of NBC’s The Office and The Last of Us Part 1 have merged in the most bizarre mashup that no one requested. In the Naughty Dog remake, this takes the shape of an abandoned workplace that uncannily mimics the NBC series’ Dunder Mifflin office.

There have always been lots of Easter eggs in Naughty Dog’s games for players to discover. Naughty Dog seems to enjoy concealing clever allusions to various objects, as evidenced by references to the fictional nation of Arstotzka from Papers, Please, paintings of several of the main characters from Monkey Island, and a Precursor Egg from Jak & Daxter.

was playing The Last of Us: Part 1 and searching for a hiding spot from adversaries. However, when Joel and Ellie continued their TLOU: Part 1 journey, Rxelei saw that the office’s layout was quite similar to that of the Dunder Mifflin branch in Scranton from The Office.

Rxelei identifies the locations of what would have been Dwight’s workstation, Pam’s reception desk, Michael Scott’s office, and even the ****** couch in the lobby in the video. Although it’s uncertain whether this was a purposeful easter egg in TLOU, the parallels between each one and the set of The Office are undeniable.

The idea of The Last of Us and The Office coexisting in the same universe is both amusing and unsettling. The office that Rxelei discovered is a total mess, just like the rest of TLOU. The couches are piled up close to the entryway as though to keep something out, there is filth and grime all throughout the place, and there is even a dead body on the floor with the head missing. (Toby, most likely.)

Fans of The Office would be surprised to hear that little is known about what happened to Dunder Mifflin’s staff. Were they captured, or did they manage to get out alive? The Last of Us live-action adaptation was also hugely successful. Is there a live-action crossover planned?

There must be a video game developer out there who is thrilled to learn that someone has found their beloved reproduction, but neither the actors of The Office nor Naughty Dog, the firm that created The Last of Us, have responded to the recent discoveries.

For a more hopeful perspective, the Scranton Branch might be flourishing in the post-apocalyptic TLOU. Perhaps Jim’s knack for office pranks and Dwight’s martial arts skills finally paid off, giving them and a few of their colleagues a fighting chance. Following that, they might have succeeded in reaching Schrute Farms and taking refuge there for a while, while Dwight started to construct a new kingdom with him at its apex.
