Play and the iOS App Store with their first simultaneous launch on alternative app stores.

That’s because King is set to partner with publisher Flexion to bring Candy Crush Solitaire to five new alternative app stores when it releases. These include the Samsung Galaxy Store and Huawei AppGallery.

Naturally, Flexion is gushing to work with such a major developer, but notably in the announcement of the deal, King was quick to point out this would be their first time launching simultaneously across so many platforms. Could this be another big nudge towards alternative app stores?

I think a lot of people underestimate just how popular King really is. Their Bejeweled-esque take on the simple match-three puzzler brings in more money than some small countries (or at least a whole lot), so it’s almost surprising they haven’t looked to alternative app stores for some time.

But what I think we should look at here is the fact they’re launching simultaneously. It means that King sees these stores as being a real avenue to getting a wider audience, on platforms that have been an afterthought previously. It certainly suggests that the big cheeses in gaming are starting to take notice of the potential of alternative app stores.
