2 women hospitalized after stabbing in Eugene, police say; search for suspect underway

Two women were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries on Saturday night after they were stabbed while walking near the intersection of Second Avenue and Madison Street in Eugene, officials said.

The Eugene Police Department said it was searching for a suspect, who was described as a 5-foot-6 white man in his 40s with a medium build and broad shoulders. He had shoulder-length curly blonde hair, with a brownish-blonde beard and was last seen wearing a blue shirt, beanie, a ****** jacket and tan cargo pants, according to the department.

The department indicated it had received a report just before 8 p.m. that two women in their 20s had been stabbed. The women reported they were walking north on the west side of Madison Street when a man standing next to a large tree began to follow them.

The man, who was a stranger, then attempted to rob the women and started making “punching” motions toward them with the knife, according to the report. The victims then ran and hid inside one of their vehicles.

An investigation by the Eugene Police Violent Crimes Unit was ongoing as of Monday.
