Big Bash League: Every Perth Scorcher rated as Ashton Turner fireworks can’t save bowlers from SCG hiding

Perth Scorchers’ finals hopes are hanging by a thread after a third straight defeat in an SCG run-fest.

Who went down swinging and who was roadkill as we rate every Scorchers player?

Ashton Turner: 7

Was in dire need of some runs and delivered with his first half century of the season, finishing with 66 from just 32 ****** as he tried desperately to drag his side over the line. Couldn’t get on strike in the last over and was powerless to stop Smith with his bowling changes or field placements on a small ground.

Cooper Connolly: 7

Was in the game early taking the wicket of Kurtis Patterson, just his fourth of the season, before copping some tap to finish with 3-27 off his three overs as he looks to increase his bowling load ahead of Sri Lanka. Scored an effortless 33 before holing out to Jordan Silk as the required run rate got away from him.

Asthon Agar: 6

Was the best of the bowlers by a long way, showing great control bar one full toss. He deceived Moises Henriques with a quicker ball to trap the Sixers captain lbw, taking 1-27. Was unable to carry on his form with the bat; out for a golden duck.

Jason Behrendorff: 6

Continued his power play form getting Josh Phillipe in the third over and showed the best control on an otherwise sorry night for WA quicks. Had his figures ruined by Steve Smith who took him for three sixes off the last over as Nick Hobson touched the boundary rope with his foot to deny Behrendorff the wicket.

Sam Fanning: 6

The Scorchers had to get off to a flyer if they were to be any chance and Fanning played his part cracking 41 off 29 ****** in his first game of the season, suggesting he could have been looked at earlier in the campaign. Did his best in the field, pulling off an athletic save to deny Smith his 100 for another ball.

Matthew Spoors: 5

Batted well with Turner as the Scorchers looked to mount an unlikely comeback before falling in the final over for 28 off 17. Bowled just the one over going for 12 runs and wasn’t looked at thereafter.

Finn Allen: 4

Helped the Scorchers get off to a flyer but needed to go on for much longer than his 15 off seven ******. Took a decent catch on an otherwise non-descript night.

Nick Hobson: 3

Came in at a difficult time and went down swinging after scoring just 12. He also misjudged a tough relay catch on the boundary to give Smith another six.

Jhye Richardson: 2

Produced the worst figures of his Big Bash career as he was powerless to stop Steve Smith’s onslaught. Gave up 24 runs in his power surge over as he look totally frazzled despite a strong start of 0-12 after two overs.

Aaron Hardie: 1

Still unable to bowl as he remains on restricted duties on his comeback from injury, Hardie moved down to No.3 in place of Mitch Marsh and followed in his footsteps getting out for a golden duck edging a short, wide ball behind to the keeper. Desperately out of form.

Andrew Tye: 0

Started off poor and only got worse as Tye’s horror season continued. He failed to find a line or length all night and 0-62 is his second-worst and the BBL’s third-worst figures in competition history. Thought he had a wicket off his last ball only for it to be called a no-ball and get hit for another boundary to sum up his night.
