There’s Only 1 Fallout Game Todd Howard Needs To Copy For Fallout 5

Official news about Fallout 5 may not be coming in the immediate future, as, although it’s quite certain that Bethesda’s popular post-apocalyptic series will see another entry, the developers are currently working on other projects.

It’s going to be interesting to see how Fallout 5 manages to elevate the RPG genre, as well as the franchise itself. However, if Bethesda is looking to truly deliver another generational hit that gamers simply can’t get enough of, it must copy Fallout: New Vegas as much as it can.

There’s no denying the fact that Fallout 5 has a number of predecessors to learn from when it comes to designing the gameplay up to this point in the Fallout franchise. However, Bethesda needs to look at one of the most successful entries in the franchise, Fallout: New Vegas.

What’s so special about Fallout: New Vegas? Well, to begin with, it wasn’t developed by Bethesda and Todd Howard. It was Obsidian Entertainment that took the lead for the development of title, and it absolutely smashed it. New Vegas introduced us to a level of deep storytelling, factions, and an expansive world in the Fallout universe that we’d never seen before.

However, the most special thing about New Vegas that still stands out in the current day and age is the freedom of gameplay that it brings to the table. Seriously, the game allows you to shape your journey in ways you simply can’t imagine. You can betray allies, eliminate factions, and establish ties that help you influence the ending.

The game’s reputation system directly affects how NPCs can interact with you, which helps create a diverse world. There are tons of unique quest solutions, such as combat, diplomacy, and stealth, that put the player in the driving seat of their destiny in the game.

We all know that Fallout 4 didn’t manage to meet player expectations because it deviated from the core features of the franchise and limited player freedom. If Bethesda doesn’t want to repeat the same blunder with Fallout 5, it adopts New Vegas‘ player freedom without a second thought.

Fallout 5 needs to learn from Fallout Show as well

Prime’s Fallout show put the spotlight on plenty of new secrets within Bethesda’s RPG franchise and, at the same time, honored the source material with an insane level of accuracy. However, one major way it stepped away from the formula was by dividing the main plot between multiple characters.

Lucy gives us a perspective from the side of Vault dwellers, considering that most of the protagonists in the franchise have always been from the Vaults. On the other hand, Cooper and Maximus tell us about the wasteland that Vault dwellers simply can’t survive in.

All together, the three of them make a team in a number of moments where their interests align, and that can prove to be a fun dynamic for the next Fallout game to explore.

In recent years, we’ve seen a number of Fallout fans requesting to play as one of the famous faction members other than Vault dwellers. So, with a number of playable characters, Fallout 5 can feature the well-known Vault dwellers as protagonists and offer some local faction characters.

Sure, having multiple playable characters could induce some challenges for Fallout 5 to maintain its RPG identity that stays loyal to the franchise. However, if Howard and his team handle this carefully, having a number of playable characters could prove to be a natural progression for the post-apocalyptic franchise.

With that said, what feature or mechanic would you like to see in Fallout 5? Let us know in the comments below.
