Plane ****** the latest of many claiming multiple lives

FATAL AVIATION CRASHES IN RECENT YEARS:

* Rottnest Island, January 7 – Three people were killed, including the pilot, a Danish tourist and a Swiss tourist, after their light plane plunged into the water off Rottnest Island in Western Australia. Four survivors were rescued from the water.

* Nambucca Heads, January 4 – Two people were killed after their light plane crashed off Nambucca Heads on the NSW mid-north coast.

* Tinamba West, November 2024 – Two brothers and their cousin were killed after their light plane crashed into a paddock and burst into flames in Victoria’s east Gippsland.

* Belimbla Park, October 2024 – Three people were killed in a mid-air collision involving two light aircraft flying over Oakdale in Sydney’s southwest.

* Boonah, January 2024 – Two men died succumbing to their injuries after their light plane ****** southwest of Brisbane.

* Lilydale, December 2023 – Two people were killed after their light plane clipped powerlines and crashed into the banks of the Clarence River in northern NSW.

* Mornington Peninsula, November 2023 – A TV camera operator and his pilot died after their former military jet collided with another plane flying in formation while filming a promotional video and crashed into waters off Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula. The other aircraft landed safely.

* Cloncurry, November 2023 – A pilot and two camera operators were killed after their twin-engine charter plane, which was conducting aerial bushfire surveillance operations in Queensland’s northwest, crashed.

* Pioneer Valley, October 2023 – An elderly couple was killed after their aircraft went down at Pioneer Valley near Mackay.

* Merriton, October 2023 – A father and son died after their light plane struck power lines and crashed into a field in rural South Australia.

* Gundaroo, October 2023 – A grandfather and his three school-aged grandchildren were killed after their light plane lost power and “corkscrewed” into a paddock in Queanbeyan.

* Melville Island, September 2023 – Three US marines were killed after their V-22 Osprey plane crashed in the Northern Territory during military exercises.

* Caboolture, July 2023 – A former commercial pilot and his wife were killed after their light aircraft collided mid-air with another small plane coming into land on a runway at Caboolture Aerodrome in Brisbane’s north. The other plane’s pilot suffered minor injuries.

* Lindeman Island, July 2023 – Four military personnel were killed when their MRH-90 Taipan helicopter plunged into the sea off Lindeman Island in Queensland during military training exercises.

* Mount Hector Range, April 2023 – A married couple who were expecting a baby died after their light aircraft crashed in bad weather in north Queensland.

* Arnhem Land, March 2023 – A light plane that crashed in the Northern Territory on Christmas Eve and killed two people had broken apart mid-air after it flew near ex-Tropical Cyclone Ellie.

* Gold Coast, January 2023 – Four people were killed, including a mother, two British tourists and their pilot, after two helicopters collided mid-air on the Gold Coast. Three passengers, including two young boys, suffered serious injuries while the other helicopter carrying five people landed safely.

* Mt Disappointment, March 2022 – Five people were killed in a helicopter ****** at Mt Disappointment, north of Melbourne. The helicopter was one of two that departed the city centre, flying in convoy over the mountain.
