Big Bash League: Perth Scorchers all-rounders Ashton Agar and Aaron Hardie to face Melbourne Renegades

Star all-rounders Ashton Agar and Aaron Hardie have been cleared fit to play Perth Scorchers’ clash with Melbourne Renegades.

The pair were both put through fitness tests at training on Monday night, but are warming up with teammates at Optus Stadium.

Agar missed Friday night’s clash with Sydney Thunder with back spasms, but is set to take his place in the side for Tuesday evening’s home blockbuster.

It means Matthew Spoors is likely to come out of the team after bowling one over against the Thunder.

Hardie tweaked his abdomen while batting on Friday and did not field, but it is understood that was a precaution only.

The all-rounder has not bowled at all this season because he was hampered by a quad strain and missed the first two matches.

Hardie could even bowl for the first time in the tournament. He spent time with coach Adam Voges warming up to bowl pre-match.

He has not been used with the ball this season because he missed the first two matches with a quad injury.

The news boosts a Scorchers team that has already regained Australia’s Twenty20 captain Mitch Marsh after he was dropped from the Test team for last week’s win over India in Sydney.

Jhye Richardson, who was the reserve bowler in that squad, has also been released to play.

English wicketkeeper Matty Hurst was dropped and is the likely swap for Marsh now that Hardie is set to play. Finn Allen is the most likely to take the wicketkeeping gloves.
